Bumpdate | Week 28

Week|  28, entering the third trimester, I don't know how that happened!  Time seems to be flying by!

Total Weight Gain| A lot!  I was trying to be really good after my last appointment, and as of like 3 days ok I was on track only gaining about a pound a week, which is recommended at this point.  And then at my appointment yesterday the scale was 6 pounds more then I had previously weighed myself a few days prior, putting me at a plus 9 - I literally told the nurse no way!  Luckily the doctor said don't worry about it, he said due to all the fluctuations in weather I'm probably just retaining a lot more fluid, but I'm eating mostly well and staying active and that's the most important.  Now I just have to try not to worry about it because that puts me at gaining nearly 30 pounds already!

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| Still my back, but really only on the weekends, so it looks like the key is the right balance of moving around and staying active.  During the week when I'm dancing it doesn't seem to give me too much trouble, it's actually when I have to sit for longer periods of time, or stand but standing still.  I can also feel the swelling start to settle in with the heat, especially in my feet!

Cravings|  I definitely find myself wanting sweets, and ice cream.  Not frozen yogurt, but ice cream.  Which is funny because before this pregnancy I was typically a yogurt fan over ice cream.

Sleep|  Knock on wood I've been better for the last few nights.  I find myself waking up more and more, usually out of hunger.  When I wake up because I'm hungry it's like I'm instantly awake, non of that groggy tired and I know that if I don't eat I'll just be laying there forever.  So I get up, have a snack and then usually I'm able to drift back off pretty quickly.

Clothes|  Pretty much all maternity all the time.  When I'm not working I keep finding myself gravitating towards all black, it's slimming, right?!

Workouts| I only hit the gym once this last week.  But it was mostly due to my more busy schedule, I know on days when I'm dancing more if I do the gym in addition I'm absolutely beat by the end of the day, and I definitely had some good dancing workout days!

Nursery|  The floors are down!  And Martin even got most of the quarter round trim laid last night, it's looking good and I can't wait to start to put the furniture in place this weekend.  Next on the agenda, getting some sort of organizer in the closet so we can start to have a place to put all her goodies.

Movement|  Her pattern definitely is reflective of my work schedule.  I swear she's like a jumping bean from Saturday night through Monday, then my work week starts and she'll make an appearance in the morning, also usually when I wake up in the night I'll feel her, and after work, but during the day it's like she's just snoozing away.

Best Moment this Week|  Hearing her heartbeat at my 28 week appointment yesterday.  It's just always so reassuring to hear it beating strong in there, I can't wait for our 30 week ultrasound to see how she's doing in there.  It's been since week 20 that we saw her, and I know it will be such a big difference!

The Nursery: Floors

Yay for a three day weekend, that meant we could make some serious headway on project nursery.  Though of course not as much as I anticipated, what can I say I like to set my goals high!  Plus Martin and I didn't technically have a full three day weekend, at least together, I had to go in to work on Saturday so he was free all weekend.

On Saturday while I was working Martin helped out my getting a lot of the yard work done, which I was actually kinda jealous about because it was gorgeous day outside and I was stuck inside at work and the forecast for the rest of the weekend wasn't anything too spectacular.

Sunday was operation floor.  We had only laid about 1/4 of the flooring for the nursery the previous weekend and I was determined to get it finished up this weekend, which we did.  All the flooring is officially in place!

It really is easy to put down, especially when you are working in the wide open straight spaces.  It literally snaps together, and with a few taps of a hammer and a flooring block the two pieces lock together and on to the next piece.

But we had a few hold ups on Saturday.  The rows we were starting in on where the ones that passed through the angled closed door and around the door jamb, and it probably took us a nearly 2 hours to get those three rows laid.

Luckily after that it was pretty smooth sailing.  We retired for the day around 5 pm with about 1/4 of the floor left to go because we had plans to go out for a movie - which we hadn't done in forever!

We were able to wrap up the remaining 1/4 Monday morning in just a few hours.  I know it would have all gone faster if I was a little bit more nibble!  I just can't move like I used to and getting up and down off the floor has now become a major project so things definitely trucked along as a slower pace then anticipated.

We spent the rest of Monday picking up some other major purchases for the nursery like the crib mattress and baby monitor.  All in all it was a pretty productive weekend.  Now that the flooring is laid Martin is going to be putting down the quarter round trim to finish things off this week, and changing out the electrical switches and outlets so they are a nice fresh bright white, instead of a dingy yellow.

Next weekend we are putting that crib together!

Bumpdate | Week 27

Week|  27

Total Weight Gain| I haven't hit the scale in while, which probably isn't good because knowing helps keep me in check. . . hopefully I haven't done too much damage!

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| My number one thing is still pretty much my back.  Other then that I really don't have too much to complain about.  And luckily it can fluctuate a lot, some days depending on what I do it is absolutely killing me, and other days its just a dull ache, but it's definitely become an ever present thing lately.

Cravings|  Nothing seems to be going strong right now.  I do notice I want sweet things more then I used to, or should I say more then I was previously indulging in.  I've always had a crazy sweet tooth, but I had curbed it pretty good there for awhile - I don't know that I could say the same any more.  When I'm hungry lately I'm more indecisive then ever,  I want food, I just don't know what!

Sleep|  For some reason Saturday night's seem to be my down fall.  I think because I'm usually so tired and worn out from the week by that point that I end up just tossing and turning and not really getting any sleep at all.  Other then that it seems to be find nearly every other night.

Clothes|  Still feeling frustrated on the clothing front.  A few of my non maternity tops that were still swinging it are become too short.  And I feel like every time I go out hunting for something new I come back empty handed.  I think it's time to invest in some new accessories!

Workouts| I finally made it back to the gym!  I can't even remember the last time I was there, but I was able to hit the elliptical a few days which felt good.  Nothing too crazy at this point, but it makes my back feel so much better to get moving.

Nursery|  I shared a little progress update earlier this week.  We finally had time to get started on laying the floor.  Hopefully we will wrap that up with the long weekend ahead of us, and then we can get the crib assembled!

Movement|  She's definitely moving in there, just much more aggressive some days then others.  The last few days have been all these light flutters and rolls.  But on Saturday when I got home from work it was literally like a boxing match that lasted all night, it felt like she was body slamming me, and it looked like it too!  I also think I felt the hiccups for the first time, at least from what I've read that seemed to be it.

Best Moment this Week|  On Sunday my coworkers threw me and my other coworker, who is also expecting this summer, a joint baby shower.  It was nice to see all the love and support for our little ones arrival!

The Nursery: It's Current State

It's been a busy few weeks around here.  Unfortunately it's been the kinda busy that's been keeping us from making serious progress around the house, though we are still trucking a long when we can to get things ready for this little ones arrival.  I don't know if it's just me, but the list of things I feel like needs to get done seems to grow exponentially by the day.

Not only do I want her nursery ready for her arrival, but I want to get all the little odds and ends wrapped up around the house, plus now it's yard work season, and it would be a major plus to get to enjoy some of this warm weather that's been heading our way!

A while back I shared my inspiration for her nursery, and you can check out the before state of the room here.  And this is what we're looking at today.

I know it's a far cry from actually being finished.  But the good news is, a lot of the big stuff has been done.  Martin has spent hours in here priming and caulking the board and batten and adding a fresh layer of paint to the entire room.

Here's the window seat area.  Martin primed and painted the seat to match the rest of the lower area, and I plan to put an upholstered cushion and some pillows in there to make it more cozy.  And hopefully a place that she can curl up with a book when she gets older.  You can also get a glimpse at all of the flooring that has yet to be laid down!

For the paint color I went with Behr's Silver Mist, the same color that we used in our bathroom remodel.  I plan on keeping the base of this room pretty neutral, with adding pops of a blush pink color here and there.  The light gray gives enough contrast with the white board and batten, but is still a very neutral look that you could really layer pretty much anything with.

For the flooring we went with a floating laminate floor.  Honestly we felt it would be the easiest to keep clean with 2 cats and a baby.  Plus I've already picked up a big cushy area rug to layer on top.  We used this same floor in my office downstairs and I love it.  It's super easy to install, minus all the cuts for the angles of the room.  We purchased the floor from Lumber Liquidators, it's called Dunes Bay Driftwood.  We've only gotten about 1/4 of the floor laid, but Martin and I did that in just about an hour and a half yesterday.  Once we get around the angled part of the room, the rest should go pretty quickly.

Once we finish getting the floor laid, we have some quarter round molding to install and paint to finish off the floor and then it will be time to assemble the crib and start to get the furniture into place.  I can't wait for it to start looking like a usable room!

Bumpdate | Week 26

Week|  26

Total Weight Gain| Holding steady, at least I hope that's the case!

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| My back!  Boy has it been aching, I'm definitely not used to carrying around this extra weight.  The more I move, the better.  I find on the days where I'm not as active, or I'm standing around but standing still the worse it is.  I'm also starting to be on the warm side all the time, which is a 180 for me because usually I'm cold, and my hands are freezing, not so anymore!

Cravings|  Still nothing in particular for the most part.  I have my moments of oh my gosh I'm so hungry I must eat right now, but not necessarily for anything in particular.

Sleep|  In general, pretty good.  I usually have one or two restless nights a week, or where I'm randomly wide awake at 3:30 in the morning for a few hours.  But most other nights I'm a pretty good sleeper.  Though lately I've been completely wiped out, have to go to bed, can't keep my eyes open by about 10:30pm, which is pretty early for me considering I work until 10pm!

Clothes|  I'm feeling frustrated on the clothing front lately.  I'm getting bored with all my plain tank tops and layering, and with the warmer weather I know I'm going to have to be purchasing some summer clothes, but I just haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet.

Workouts| It was a more light weight week for me, I think I made it for one video workout and out for 1 long walk, aside from my regular day to day dancing.  Usually I remember this pretty easy. . . maybe I should put pregnancy brain under symptoms as well!

Nursery|  The room is ready for some flooring to be laid down, which is currently piled up in our living room.  Now we just need to find some time to do it, I promise to have a nursery update next week!

Movement|  When she moves, she moves, but I still find it very sporadic.  They say you're supposed to start to notice a pattern with your baby's movement, but I don't feel like I'm really recognized one.  I still tend to notice her more when I'm not working, but I don't know if that can really be declared a pattern, or just when I'm paying more attention to it.

Best Moment this Week|  Celebrating my first Mother's Day!  Martin wrote me a really sweet card, and we went up to Madison to spend the day with my mom and family.  We had a nice low key get together, and my brother cooked brunch for all of us.  I can't wait till next year when I have an actual little one to celebrate mother's day with!

Bumpdate | Week 25

Week|  25

Total Weight Gain| I think I'm holding steady since last week, I've been trying really hard to not over indulge and eat a little better.

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| I had some serious swelling going on last week, but I'm going to attribute that to the combination of pregnancy and the fact that the weather went from like 40 degrees to 80 degrees in a matter of like 2 days.  My feet were so swollen by Sunday that I could barely squeeze them into my dance shoes for an event that we had.  I already have a bigger pair on the way for these warmer days we are moving into.  And lets just say I got a preview of what a hot sweaty summer this will most likely be!  The weather was absolutely gorgeous, while dancing in it was definitely toasty!  My other new symptom this past week seems to be my aching back, I've never been one to have any back aches or pains, so I'm definitely being a bit of a baby with how much it's been aching lately.

Cravings|  Still wanting much of nothing, it's hard for me to think of something that sounds appetizing, but don't get me wrong I'm still plenty hungry.  But there is nothing I have to have at the moment.

Sleep|  Aside from the soreness in my back every time I flip from side to side, knock on wood, it's been going pretty good lately.

Clothes|  Pretty much all maternity all the time.  I picked up a pair of pregnancy spanx which I've found are definitely going to come in handy under summer dresses, mostly because I can't stand when my legs rub together, and they are pretty much at the point where they will be doing that all the time!

Workouts| I managed 2 walks, 1 DVD session, 1 light weight session, and a pretty strenuous Saturday of dancing - which has to count for something!

Nursery|  Martin has been doing great spending a lot of time on the nursery these last few weeks.  This last week he got the paint up on the upper half of the wall so I definitely will be back with a nursery update next week, things are progressing!

Movement|  I'm feeling more and more, which I love.  It still slows down, or is hardly noticeable when I'm teaching/dancing.  But in the mornings, and at night she's getting to be more and more active.  It's so strange when you are just laying there and you can see the movements flutter across your belly from the outside.

Best Moment this Week|  We started our prepared childbirth classes at the hospital this week.  Now I can't necessarily say that sitting in a room for 3 1/2 hours was the best moment of the week, but every milestone we check off is exciting and it means we are that much closer to not only meeting our little one, but also being prepared for meeting her!

April Favorites

I'm stopping by today to share a few of my favorites from the past month.  I have to admit I only have a few, I haven't been jumping in and trying too many new things for myself lately.   I find myself sticking a lot with what I know works, what can I say I'm a creature of habit!  But these are a few things that were new to me this past month.

I love the original version of this moisturizer, and I'm loving this one just as much.  It has the same great moisturizing properties and keeps my skin hydrate and nourished all day long, but it has a great scent.  It's light with a little bit of sweet and a little bit of fruity, it's not heavy and over powering.  And the best part is if I keep my eyes peeled for it I can usually spot it at TJ Maxx or Marshalls for $12.99 versus the $23 it retails for.

I have been getting more headaches then usual with this pregnancy and this has been my go to remedy, so much so that I make sure I carry my bottle with me in my purse wherever I go.  I just have to dab a little bit on my temples and the back and my neck and soon the tingling sets in and relief is on it's way.  It doesn't always make the headaches disappear, but it does always provide for some immediate relief.

Ashley Thomas Decaf Chai French Vanilla Tea & Chocolate Mix
I have searched high and low for this mix online with no such luck.  When I gave up coffee back in the fall I felt like I also gave up the occasional indulgences in the specialty coffee drinks that went with it, and sometimes you just want a special treat.  Well awhile back I mentioned a local chocolate shop, Anna Shea Chocolates, that also happens to have a lounge and serve many things other then chocolate.  One of the things they serve is this delicious mix of Chai tea and Hot Chocolate, and not only does it come in multiple flavors, but also in decaf - a major plus for this pregnant gal.  Plus they also sell the mix so you can recreate this awesome treat at home, unfortunately I couldn't locate it anywhere on the internet, but I bet you could order it from the Chocolate shop and have them send it your way.  It is that good that I would do that!

What have you been loving lately?
