Bumpdate | Week 24

Hey everyone, I know I've been a little MIA from this blog recently.  Really I have no excuses other then life, and growing this little human!  I hope to get back to some more regular posts soon, so please bare with me.  Until then I'm stopping by with my weekly update on my growing belly.

Week|  24

Total Weight Gain| Too much!  I'm pushing a little over 20 pounds, at least that's what the scale at my doctors appointment said yesterday, so I really need to watch it.  Really though it isn't that surprising to me due to a few reasons.  One, before my pregnancy I was super strict with my diet, not that I've fallen off the band wagon now, but I know that I'm consuming a lot more calories then I was previously and a lot more carbs then before.  Two, I know that I'm exercising way less then I was pre pregnancy as well, so I've got more calories coming in and less going out, generally a pretty good equation for weight gain even without pregnancy.  So, I know I have to be better!

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| The linea nigra that started to appear the other week seems to be creeping further up my belly, passing my belly button, though it's still really faint.  Other then that I've been experiencing some occasional swelling (i.e. my face in that picture above!) but usually just temporary, and especially in my feet on some of these warmer days when I'm on my feet in my dance shoes a lot.

Cravings|  Unfortunately lately I seem to want nothing.  Not that I'm not hungry, because boy am I hungry.  It just seems like nothing sounds all that great, or I can't make up my mind of what I want, but as I said before I'm going to make myself get back on track with more healthy habits.

Sleep|  I would say pretty decent 90% of the time, but for some reason lately me and Saturday nights just don't get along.  Which really kinda stinks because that's the end of my work week, and usually I'm just exhausted by then and I feel SO incredibly tired, and then I just end up tossing and turning all night long.

Clothes|  Stretch for the win!  I picked up a few new dresses this last week to wear at some upcoming events we have for work, and a few maxi dresses for when it really starts to warm up.

Workouts| I didn't do as good as the week before.  I only popped in my workout DVD once, but I spent a good chunk of time doing yard work this past weekend and that has to count for something, right?!  Man has that gotten harder now that I'm pregnant!

Nursery|  Martin has been working hard at patching and painting the board and batten that was already in the room, and adding a coat of poly to the craigslist dresser that we picked up so it will stand up to the test of a baby and probably many wipe downs.  Also all of our goodies that we ordered have come in, so I have a pile of new flooring sitting in my living room and a crib box and rug waiting in my guest room.

Movement|  I swear she doesn't like me working or something.  She seems to be so so active on the weekends, and then my work week starts and she barely makes an appearance.  Every now and again she'll flutter throughout the day.  This last weekend I saw some movement from the outside for the first time, that was definitely a little crazy!

Best Moment this Week|  Hearing her strong little heart beat at my doctors appointment yesterday, I just love hearing that and knowing that she's doing ok in there.  And, this may sounds weird, but getting our yard work done, because I swear we were the last house on the block to get it going this spring!

Bumpdate | Week 23

Week|  23

Total Weight Gain| I'm holding out until my doctors appointment next week.

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| There isn't too much change, though I've notice  the start of a faint line up my stomach, the linea nigra that all the pregnancy books refer too.  I also think I've started to get some acid reflux, at least that's what I'm calling it because I've never experienced it before in my life so I'm just basing it off my own description.

Cravings|  I think I have curbed these pretty decently this last week.  Not to say I still didn't eat chicken salad for nearly every meal, but I'm controlling myself on the sushi and cheese front.  My problem now when I'm hungry is that I just don't know what I want to eat, nothing sounds quite right - especially if I have to cook it!

Sleep|  It's been pretty decent lately - I don't want to jinx it!  I've found a new arrangement with my pillows that is working wonders after an incredibly sleepless weekend.

Clothes|  I'm all about keeping it comfortable, but getting a little nervous about the hotter months ahead.  I still struggle with keeping a more dressy look for work, but I'm sticking pretty much to my staples.

Workouts| I was pretty proud of myself this week.  I made it out for 2 walks, and I fit in 2 video workouts.  I went out a little long for the first walk and my lower back was regretting it for the rest of the day, even into the next, but the weather was just too gorgeous not to get out and enjoy it.

Nursery|  I shared the current state of our nursery earlier this week, and I'm excited to say we've made a good dent in at least getting things ordered/bought.  We picked up a dresser this weekend, got the floor ordered for the room, a crib is on it's way, and I just placed an order for a rug the other night.

Movement|  She was SO active over the weekend.  Starting Friday night through Sunday it felt like she was moving all over the place, Martin even felt a little rumble when he put his hand over my stomach.  Then she quieted down for a few days, which always makes me a little nervous, though I'd get a little flutter now and again, and then last night when I was dancing there she was again!

Best Moment this Week|  Martin surprised me with a prenatal massage and pedicure on Sunday, and it was so nice to relax and get pampered.  Plus feeling like we're making headway for this baby's arrival just feels good.

Nursery: The Before

Finally it's time to make some headway on this nursery for our little girls arrival this August, it feels like it will be here before you know it!  And it feels like the check list of things to do before she comes is already a mile long.  Last week I shared my inspiration for her nursery, now it's time to see the space we are working with.

It's not a true before, as we've already cleared the room of all the major furniture and Martin and removed the carpeting, but let me warn you these are some candid photos and what the room truly looks like at this very moment - a far far way from actually being a nursery.

The room is the the only other bedroom on our second floor besides our master bedroom.  There is a bath between the two rooms, but that's about all that's up there making it a super convenient location and probably about 5 steps from our room.

Here is the view when you first step foot into the room.

Yes, there is still piles of junk cluttering the room, I'm working on it!  And yes you can see straight into my neighbors house if the blinds are up.  I added the board and batten treatment maybe about 5 years ago, and that will be staying, but the carpet had to go because when Charlie was sick the was the room he kinda choose to destroy to put it nicely.

Here is the view looking back at the entrance to the room.

As you can see it's a good size room, but with a lot of angles.  The first door on the left leads to a good size closet.  The other door is the entrance to the room, and the alcove on the right leads to another window.

The state of the closet right now isn't pretty.

Yes, I already spent a day in here cleaning it out, it looks like there's a lot left, but really it's not too much.  As you can see the wire shelving has been gradually falling down over the years.  We are going to come up with a better storage solution to maximize the space in here, so for the mean time everything is going to come down, get patched, and a fresh coat of paint.

And then there is the window nook.

Yup, there is an exercise ball and an Egyptian statue in my window nook at the moment, and that is my ironing board being used as a shelf for tools.  Though is may look like a disaster at the moment, I'm excited to make this area into a window seat/reading nook.  We have the same window set up in our master bedroom and I've been wanting to make them into window seats for years, it's finally time.

So I know the room is incredibly raw right now, but I know once the ball starts rolling it's really going to come together and I can't wait.

Now that the carpet has been removed, next up on the agenda is paint.  Since the board and batten has been up for awhile, the knots have started to show though - clearly I didn't pick the right primer the first time around.

So we're going to give them another coat of primer, and give the lower half a fresh coat of white paint.  And when I say we're, I mean Martin - he's being kind enough to do anything that involves fumes, allowing me to stay far away from that.  And then we are going to lighten up the top half with a paint color that is still up for grabs.

In other good news, the new floor has been ordered and should be in this weekend.  We scored an awesome dresser off of Craigslist this weekend that we will be using for storage and as a changing table.  Plus I got the crib ordered as well, I'm feeling good!  Stay tuned for more details!

High Five for Friday

Well hello there!  It's been nearly a month since I've stopped by for a High Five for Friday post, so high five to me for making it happen today!  Usually I'm so wiped by the time I get home from work on Thursday that there is no hope in me getting one together - but I was determined this week!

Here's a look at some highlights from this week.

1.  We finally actually started to purchase a few things for our baby girls arrival this past weekend.  It wasn't much, but just doing something felt like a big accomplishment.  I found a few things for her nursery, a throw pillow and some storage baskets.  And we also picked up a few clothing items.  Little by little we will hopefully get all of our bases covered.

2.  Monday was a gorgeous day, and though I spent most of it inside cleaning my way through an over stuffed closet, when Martin and I got home from work we went for a walk outside.  It was nice to get out and enjoy the weather and feel the sun. . . my skin has forgotten what that's all about.

3.  Later, while we were out running errands on Monday we spotted this nice little treat on our drive.

4.  I got us registered for our new baby classes, and a breast feeding class at the hospital this week.  Now it's getting even more real!  We'll start our classes in May, which is right around the corner.  Hopefully it will help us get a little bit more prepared, and it will be nice to meet some other expecting parents.

5.  Martin gets the five star husband award.  He surprised me with a massage and pedicure for this Sunday, which I am more then looking forward to!  I'm starting to feel the aches and pains of pregnancy, and reaching my feet is becoming more and more of a challenge!

Bumpdate | Week 22

Week|  22

Total Weight Gain| Pretty sure I'm pushing about 20 pounds, but really it's all relative on the day. . . let's not talk too much about this topic!

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| I've started with the swelling, I'm attributing some of it to the weather change.  It shows up some days, and not at all others.  Sometimes my feet, sometimes my hands - I'm trying to stay super hydrated and elevate my feet whenever I can.  Speaking of feet, they are generally killing me.  Not always, but more often - sometimes the minute I change into my dance shoes at work I can just tell and within 45 minutes all I want to do is take them off!

Cravings|  I have tried desperately to cut back on the cheese this week, which I feel like I've been pretty successful with.  It doesn't mean I don't want it, but I'm pretty sure it's been a big contributor to the probably more then healthy weight gain.  I've been on a kick with Costco's chicken salad, like eating it for lunch and dinner every day for the last week.  Lately I've had no desire to cook, and its so easy and convenient and good!

Sleep|  Still on my hit or miss cycle, though I'm strangely feeling a little more comfortable when I sleep, maybe I'm just getting used to the new positions I need to be sleeping in, though I find myself waking up on my back more and more.

Clothes|  I definitely have my "go to" look down which tends to be some sort of tank or tee with a jacket, or cardigan or something over the top to dress it up.  I find I'm the most comfortable that way, at least for now - and lets be honest, comfort is key!

Workouts| I'm starting to ease back into adding a little bit more then just my daily dancing to the plate.  I have a few light dumbbells at home and incorporated some weights a few mornings this week, next week I'm going to aim for a bit more.

Nursery|  I share my nursery inspiration earlier this week, and I bought the first few items this past weekend.  Nothing major, but it was something.  A throw pillow, and some storage baskets - slowly getting started!  And I spent Monday cleaning out all the junk that had accumulated in the closet in that room, that took  forever!

Movement|  I've felt a few good movements, but they are still far and few between, I'm waiting for them to become consistent!

Best Moment this Week|  Starting to buy stuff for our little ones arrival.  The last few weeks I've all of a sudden felt so behind, so to get out this weekend and make a dent on our registry and pick up a few small things ourselves made it start to feel all that more real!

Nursery Inspiration

Lately I've had all things baby on the brain, surprise surprise, right?!  Ever since I reached the halfway point I've felt increasingly behind on this whole game and like I had a to do list a mile long, mostly because up until that point I kept saying oh let's wait until after 20 weeks, meaning I had tackled nothing, literally nothing, for the arrival of this little one.

On one hand, I have until August, on the other hand, I only have until August!  And I mean come on I don't want to be waddling around 9 months pregnant wrapping up all the things I could have already gotten done!  So we hit 20 weeks and off we went to create our registry, um. . . holy cow, by the way - that's a process in the making.  Ours is definitely still in progress.  And now it's time to start project nursery.

We have a spare room upstairs, across the hall from our master that we will be using as the nursery.  Up until this point it has housed all sorts of extra furniture and and stored all sorts of excess.  We have managed to clear the room of all the big pieces, now it's just down to the little things.  The carpet was also in dire shape so it has mostly been removed.  Well we finish getting the room ready to get put back together I thought I would share some of my inspiration for our little girls nursery.

I somehow made the mistake of discovering Restoration Hardware Baby & Kids.  I'm in love with all of it, problem is it is ALL out of my budget, but it does make for some great inspiration.

I am loving all the neutrals and plan to go with a lot of whites and grays with using a petal pink as my accent color.  I even picked up a few first pieces to go in the nursery this weekend.  It may only be a throw pillow and some storage baskets, but it's a start!  We will definitely be constructing this room on a budget, so I'm excited to see what I can do to make it look as glamorous as all my inspiration, stay tuned in to see the progress.

Bumpdate | Week 21

Week|  21

Total Weight Gain| Holding steady with last week at my 15 plus pounds, though I discovered a 5 pound difference (in my favor!) when I stepped on the scale at home, maybe I had heavy clothes on that day at the doctors . . .

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| My ravenous appetite is back, I feel like I'm hungry ALL the time!  I'll eat a meal and then I feel starving hungry within an hour.  Martin and I went out to dinner Saturday night and before we even left the restaurant I was hungry and knew I needed to eat again when we got home, she must be growing!  The other one that gets me is those headaches, I've been keeping my peppermint oil on hand to combat those as best as I can.

Cravings|  Still on the cheese, I'm also loving the simple carbs, and for some reason this week I couldn't get enough chicken salad - strange.

Sleep|  This has definitely been hit or miss.  I either get a great nights sleep, like please don't wake me up I could sleep all day, or I'm tossing and turning all night and then just exhausted the next day.

Clothes|  I'm now sporting mostly maternity clothes.  The bottoms definitely, unless I'm around the house in sweat pants.  Though I'm still on the hunt for some good maternity work tops that don't resemble a tent.

Workouts| Definitely took it easy for another week.  The dancing is getting harder and harder, as well as with the amount of energy I'm exerting at work.  My goal is to start incorporating some light workouts on days where I know my schedule isn't too hectic at the studio.

Nursery|  Martin has almost all of the carpet pulled up in the room, but I still haven't pulled the trigger on the floor!

Movement|  Last week I had some for sure flutters, but I haven't felt them as prominent this week.  The doctor reassured me that is normal at this stage, and said that I should be feeling her more consistently around 24 weeks,

Best Moment this Week|  Being done with work on Saturday!  Saturday's absolutely kill me at the studio!  I'm usually tired by Friday as it is, and then Saturday tends to be my busiest teaching day of the week.  I've gotten better about regularly scheduling breaks during my day, and during one of them last Saturday I definitely holed up in my office with the door shut and the lights off - making it to the end of the day felt like a major accomplishment!

Combating Under Eye Circles

I don't know about you but I have a constant battle going with my under eye circles.  I always feel like there has to be some magic potion or remedy out there that I just haven't come across yet that will make me look more alert and awake, and less like I really need 8 more hours of sleep.  I feel like I've finally fallen into a groove with a good routine, so of course I want to share it!

1. Hydrate
Water is key.  Now that I've been on a mission to consume more water, not only can I tell when I'm slacking by how my complexion is looking, I can totally see it in my under eye area.  Staying properly hydrated helps flush your system and keep things from building up and retaining, there fore not as much swelling and puffiness.  A win towards combating that dreaded under eye area.

I know for me I've had to to start keeping large reusable drinking cups with straws around pretty much everywhere in order for me to consume enough water on a daily basis.  I have one at work, one at home. . .if it's not with me, I'm not getting the water I should.

2. Nourish
That under eye area is sensitive.  The skin is thin and delicate and it needs some special attention.  I was recently introduced to Youth Glow Eye Gel by goPure Naturals.  I love that this is a 100% natural product that helps fight fine lines, wrinkles and puffiness.  I haven't been using the product for too long, but I feel like I can already tell a difference in my under eye area looking less 'damaged' then before.  And that's only with using it once a day in the morning, mostly because I never remember to apply it at night.  I think a good eye cream is important in tackling those under eye problems and I'm definitely digging this one!
*goPure Naturals is offering all my readers 25% off of any goPure purchase with coupon code LHADD4OY, exp. 6/15/15.

3. Conceal
The right concealer finishes of the battle.  Right now I'm totally loving Urban Decay's Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer.  It's not too heavy for a full coverage concealer, and it stays put all day without any caking or creasing into lines.  It also adds a nice subtle brightness to the under eye area, which is great when you are trying to diminish those dark circles.  It's definitely at a higher price point, but I've loved it so much I already stocked up on another tube to make sure I'm not stuck a day without it.

What are your secrets for fighting those under eye circles?

*This post was powered by BrandBacker.  I was supplied with a sample of goPure Naturals Youth Glow Eye Gel, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Bumpdate | Week 20

Week|  20, halfway, I can't believe it!

Total Weight Gain| Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm pushing the plus 15 right about now, if not a little more.  I'm thinking I'm a little ahead of the curve, but the doctor hasn't mentioned anything yet.

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| This week has definitely been the most stressful of all the weeks.  I've been in and out of the doctors a handful of times with symptoms that seemed unusual to me and some spotting that pretty much freak me out due to what happened with me previously.  I had to take it easy for a few days at the end of last week, but they say everything seems fine.  The hard thing about pregnancy is there isn't always an explanation for why something is happening, which drives me crazy!

Cravings|  Definitely downing the cheese, which probably attributes to my more then healthy weight gain.  I'm not off the spicy California rolls, but I'm totally leaning more towards the cheese these days.

Sleep|  It's been pretty darn good every night, except for last night!  Had a little tossing and turning - hence why this post is coming to you a little later then normal today!  When I finally made it back to sleep I did not want to get up.

Clothes|  I finally added a good few pairs of pants to the mix that I found at Kohl's of all places, there maternity section is so small  you might miss it, actually I did.  But within that teeny tiny section a found a few pairs of dress pants that had ample enough stretch for me to dance around in.  The department I'm now struggling in is tops.  I'm hitting the point where a lot of my pre pregnancy dress tops just aren't working anymore, as you can see in the photo above.  That shirt should fall smoothly down my back, but now it gets caught up on my rear cause it can't fit all of me.  Most maternity tops seem to either be plain cotton, which isn't dressy enough for work.  Or the dressier ones look like tents with some sort of belt or drawstring above the belly, just not feeling it.

Workouts| Totally did nothing this week.  Honestly I think I over did it last week, and was told by my doctor the later part of the week to take it easy through Monday.  It's really hard for me to know my limits with my job because I'm used to being on my feet dancing and teaching all day and it just takes more out of me then I think.  I'm trying to find my happy medium.

Nursery|  My vision is starting to come together - at least in my head!  We've decided to go with the same laminate floor in there as we did in my office so next step is to get that ordered.

Movement|  There has been some definite flutters.  Usually I can feel them either in the morning when I'm sitting with my tea, or once I crawl into bed at night, but they are still few and far between.

Best Moment this Week|  Having our anatomy scan and finding out we are having a little girl!  Plus seeing at the different parts and knowing that everything is looking ok in terms of growth and development.  We even got a thumbs up from her, almost like she was saying "everything's ok!"

March Favorites

With March behind us, I'm ready to jump into April - bring it on spring!  We are all too ready for warmer temps and sunny days.  Today I'm sharing a few products that were on repeat for me during this last month.  They are all new products for me, no old favorites for me this month.

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I wanted to start to learn the art of contouring and highlighting.  Now I can't say I've made too much progress, but after doing some online research I went to Target and picked up the Sonia Kashuk Chic Defining Contour Stick and the Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge.  First of all I can't believe I haven't added a blending sponge to my beauty collection until now, they are so easy to use and it works perfectly with the contour stick.  With the contour stick a little bit sure does go a long way, and I definitely learned that the hard way the first time - let's just say we had a little oompa loompa look going on.  It first goes on and looks like it's going to be way too dark, but if you start with just a little and use the blending sponge before long you have a more natural color that you can build upon.

I'm still looking for easy contouring and highlighting tips and/or tricks, please pass them my way!

While I was at Target picking up my contouring supplies I also came home with the elf Lip Exfoliator.  I'd been meaning to get some sort of lip exfoliator for a while, thanks to this lovely winter my lips have been quite dry and destroyed and every time I try to wear lip stick it just looks horrible with the dry flakes on my lips.  This exfoliator is easy to use, just rub it on like lipstick, smear it around with your finger and wipe it off.  It was nourishing and left my lips soft and ready for lipstick, and at only $3 you can't beat that.

Next up, this color is my current obsession on my nails, Red Carpet Manicure in Violetta Darling.  This is the first color in a long time that I'm ready to repeat.  Usually when I do my nails every two weeks I'm so ready to switch to a new color, but I'm not ready to get rid of this pretty pale purple.  It's perfect for spring time.

Finally my last favorite for March is Benefits They're Real Push-Up Liner.  I snagged this mini size a few months ago and it's been sitting in my makeup bag.  I don't use eye liner often, but once I gave this one a try I loved it.  Usually I hate how unnatural eye liner looks and how difficult it is for me to put on.  It looks uneven, or crooked, or something of the sort.  This stuff is seriously amazing, it's gel liner in the easier applicator.  The tip is slanted and rubbery and you just click a little eye liner up to the end and the tip makes it seamless to put on.  Once I'm out of this mini size I will totally stock up on the full size version.

What products were you loving in March?
