Rose | 3 Months

Hi. . . I have not completely forgotten about this blog, I promise.  My new life has just taken a little to adjust to, and I hope to get back to some more regular posts in the near future.  Until then my quest is to at least get my monthly baby updates done - mostly so I don't forget about these things that go by and change way too fast!

It feels a little funny to say my new life, but it seriously feels like a brand new life.  I knew that having a baby would completely change things - which it totally has.  But I don't think I was ever taking into consideration the other changes that would be coming a long with it, like work and relationship life.  I've been fortunate and lucky enough to be able to take on a new roll at my job that allows me the flexibility to be with Rose everyday, which I couldn't be happier about.  Instead of working up front with the students and teachers like I was, I'm now more on the back operational end of things.  I started back with my new roll when Rose was about 6 weeks old, and we've been getting into our groove.  I usually go into the studio a few days a week, the rest of the days I work from home.  It's been a little bit of a challenge figuring out how to work with my new assistant - but really I think I was more nervous about it then I needed to be.

Another added bonus is the fact that I actually get to see Martin everyday of the week.  We used to have completely opposite schedules, and were just like ships passing in the night.  Now we get to actually sit down and have dinner together everyday which is really nice.  We've been making a habit, starting this last month, to have dinner at the table every night - we used to be exceptionally guilty of plopping our butts on the couch and eating in front of the TV every night.  We put Rose in her chair at the table, and have a family dinner.

Speaking of Rose, my little munchkin is now 3 months old.  She is getting SO big.  I swear she felt like she packed on a few pounds just over night the other day.

There is no doctors appointment at month 3 so I don't have an official height/weight check in.  But we had a little impromptu doctors appointment half way through the month due to a not so pretty rash she ended up with on her face and she had already packed on a pound and a half since her 2 month check up.  The rash just ended up being cradle cap, which I had a feeling, thanks Google, but I wanted to make sure.  It cleared up in just a few days with some cream the doctor gave us.

A few highlights from month 3. . .

We switched from disposable to cloth diapers at the beginning of the month.  I was most definitely I little hesitant at first.  It was always the plan, in fact I had stocked up on them before she was even born, but had read that they work best once baby has grown a bit, so we waited for awhile.  The first few days I was not feeling it, but after about a week I got in the groove of using them - and now I totally love them.  We're using the Bumgenius 4.0, and since the switch we have had no major blow outs which is a major plus.

Rose had her first Halloween.  The costume was short lived, but she had it on long enough for me and my mom to snap some pictures.  It was so hard to find anything to fit her other the onesies, but you only have your first Halloween once so we needed a costume!

Rose has been loving her play mat.  She has become so much more interactive this month swing and grabbing the animals.  We also had our first roll this month.  The same day I took her into the doctors for the rash on her face she rolled from her front to her back, several times.  I was kinda surprised at first because we hadn't even come kinda close to rolling before, so I kept flipping her back over, and she kept rolling over.  The doctor said it was probably just an accident so I took her back home and put her back on her tummy and she did it again.  Now it's definitely an elective thing.  There is no rolling over on a consistent basis, but some day's she'll go for it and others not so much.

She's still a great sleeper, though lately she's been so noisy around 5 am.  We are still going strong with breastfeeding, and have yet to successfully have daddy give her a whole bottle.  She has no idea was to do with a pacifier.  She loves her bath, but isn't too fond of the time it takes for us to try her off and get her in her jammies.  She's a cat napper during the day, anything past 45 minutes is way out of the ordinary.  She loves being out and about.  She is officially now in pretty much all 3 - 6 month clothes.  She can babble up a storm, and is so close to getting a giggle in there - which we are so looking forward to hearing!  We are loving our little girl more and more everyday!

Rose | 2 Months

This little girl turned 2 months old a week ago . . . time flies, and I'm already getting behind on keeping up to date with her little updates!  It's crazy how it seems like she's been with us for so much longer than 2 months, in the best way possible.  She's just changed so much that it feels like she's been around for a whole lot longer.

She has continued to be the sweetest little baby, looking a whole lot like her daddy right now.

She started sleeping through the night nearly a month ago - which I know we are so lucky that she's sleeping so good (knock on wood).  I can feed her and put her down for bed around 8:30 pm and she'll sleep until around 7:30 am the next morning, sometimes a little less and sometimes a little more, but it seriously amazes me how lucky we got in that department.  This little girl must have known how much her momma likes her sleep, no not just likes her sleep - but needs her sleep!

We have been getting more and more smiles and coos from this little one, and we've finally been able to capture a few.

Rose went on her first road trip this last month, up to my parents house in Wisconsin.  It's only about a 2 hour trip, but she did great.  She slept the whole way there, and on the way back she got fed when we stopped for some food and she was good.  I was a little nervous about how she'd sleep in a different setting, but she did good and continued to sleep through the night.

She's still eating like a champ, 100% breast milk and  pretty much 100% from me.  She checked in at 23.5'' and 11 lb 2 oz. at her last appointment, steadily growing.  She had some more chubs at the beginning of the month, but she's getting taller and losing a little of her pudge, though she's still got some good baby leg rolls going on.  We haven't had too much success with a bottle.  She's eaten a little out of one here and there, though honestly we're probably not trying often enough.  I keep saying we need to do it more often, but then I just end up feeding her.

We've been going on a a good amount of walks while we still can.  The weather has been absolutely gorgeous and we are loving our walks together.  She's always such a good baby when we go out and about, at least no major disasters yet.

And she has been getting stronger on her tummy, and lasting longer before getting pissed off and wanting to be flipped back over.  She does best when you put her in front of the little mirror on her play mat, but you definitely have to time tummy time right because if she's not in one of her more energetic states she will just lie there face planted into the floor - probably not too productive.

We were running errands this weekend and seeing all of the Christmas stuff start to show up in the stores is making me so excited for this little ones first holiday season!!

Rose | 1 Month

Our sweet girl turned 1 month last Friday - and I seriously can't believe it!  She has already changed sooooo much over these last 4 weeks that she's been with us.  It totally feels like a completely different life now that she's in it, and we wouldn't have it any other way!

Nicknames| Sweet girl, Munchkie (apparently that's my take on munchkin), girlfriend

Height & Weight| 9lbs 14 oz, and 22 inches long.  Girlfriend has packed on 2+ pounds since birth, which isn't surprising - she takes after her mom in that regard, she likes to eat!

Food| Right now she is getting 100% of that from me 100% of the time.  But I really can't complain, I love our time together.  The first few days were a little rough, but now we've settled into our groove.  If she's awake she's feeding about every 1 1/2 - 2 hours.  When Rose was about 1 week old I went to see the lactation consultant at the hospital just to make sure we were getting off to a good start and they we're blown away by how much she was already eating at that point.  I kept reading all these things that new moms have concerns with if their baby is getting enough to eat or not, and luckily that is not something I have to even worry about at this time, which is awesome because I was slightly fearful due to the fact that sometimes PCOS can inhibit milk production.

Sleep| This is one department where I am going to consider us extremely blessed.  Our little munchkin is not much of a napper during the day, usually she'll drift off for a bit late morning and maybe a bit here or there in the evening.  Usually if we are out for a walk she will eventually nod off.  But at night, she has truly been an angel baby.  The first few weeks home she was waking up about 2 times a night pretty consistently, and then we had a night where she slept for a 8 hour stretch, only getting up 1 time that night.  Right now we go between 1 and 2 feedings at night, but usually that first stretch of sleep is anywhere from 6-8 hours, and it's amazing!  I'll give her her last feeding between 8-9pm, and then (knock on wood) she goes down in her crib without a fuss and then she's out for a good stretch.

A few weeks before Rose was born I remember telling Martin that I was afraid I was being naive because I kept imagining everything once she got here as being easy and going smoothly and that I knew that in reality babies can be really challenging and hard at times.  But she has seriously been such a little angel.  She is so easy going and calm.  Of course we have our moments, but they have been few and far, and short lived.  We've been enjoying tons of walks with this beautiful weather we have been having, and are just soaking up our time together.  I know we are a bit biased, but she is the sweetest girl and we love her to pieces!

She's Here!

Martin and I couldn't be happier to welcome our new addition to the family.  Rose finally decided to make her appearance last week, late Monday, officially arriving into this world early Tuesday morning.  We are falling more in love with her everyday, and couldn't be more excited for this chapter!

Bumpdate | Week 39

Week|  39

Due Date| August 15, 2015, this Saturday!!

Total Weight Gain| Well I made up for not gaining anything last week, I have officially hit the plus 50 lb mark, boo.

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| Unfortunately I am having no symptoms that might indicate that labor is in the near future, but I know you never know.  I've been having some crazy acid reflux lately, mostly in the middle of the night.  I end up having to prop myself almost upright to end up falling back asleep.

Cravings|  The sugar cravings are definitely going strong, I need to start to curb myself and get back into some better eating habits!

Sleep|  I totally jinxed myself last week.  I slept for nearly 12 hours on Saturday night, I don't even know the last time I did that.  I looked at the clock in the morning and it was nearly 10 am, I have no idea the last time I slept that late - and I'm sure it won't be happening any time again in the next several years!  Then everything changed and now I've been waking up like a million times a night.  The newest thing is I feel like I've been asleep half the night when I wake up the first time, and then when I look at the clock I realize I've only been asleep for about an hour.

Clothes| Dresses and yoga pants, that is all.

Workouts| Totally non existent!

Nursery|  This is the room our little girl will be coming home to, excited to finally get to put it to use.  Hopefully sooner than later!

Movement|  It's almost been changing week by week, you can definitely tell she's getting cramped in there.  Generally the movements are very subtle, though every once in a while I'll get a good heel to the side which is starting to get slightly painful.

Best Moment this Week|  Probably the 12 hours of sleep I got Saturday night, it was pretty amazing.

Missing|  My clothes, my body, easily being able to move around!

Looking Forward To|  Getting this show on the road!

The Nursery

I know this is the cleanest and neatest this room will ever see, but we are calling it done 'for now'.  I'm sure it will evolve plenty over time as we figure out our actual needs with having a little one, but I love the for now and can't wait to bring her home to her new room.

In case you don't remember back in April we started with our extra room, you can check out the before photos here.  After tearing up the carpet, we installed new laminate floors, added paint, redid the closet, picked out the furniture, built a window seat, and then it was time to put the room back together again.  And here is the final result.

I hope she loves it as much as I do!

Bumpdate | Week 38

Week|  38

Due Date| August 15, 2015, less than 10 days away!

Total Weight Gain| I actually didn't really gain any this week, first time ever!  I just may swoop in under the plus 50 lb mark, but I'm not holding my breath!

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| Well I got sick for the second time ever this pregnancy, all in all I consider myself pretty lucky.  But bent over a toilet at 38 weeks pregnant isn't exactly my idea of fun.  Luckily I haven't had a repeat occurrence of that and I've generally been feeling pretty decent.  I had a few days where the swelling seemed to be a lot less, my feet actually looked semi normal, but that disappeared again yesterday and I'm back to the typical swelling I've been having.

Cravings|  I could still go for a slushe, though I've cut back from last week.  I definitely had one everyday last week and only one so far this week!

Sleep|  I'm probably going to jinx myself, but the last few nights have been pretty decent.  I think I even went one whole night without getting up for a bathroom break.  There is even a few times where I wake up on the opposite side I remember falling asleep on and don't remember waking up and turning over, which is just crazy to me at this point because turning over is quite a process at this stage in the game.

Clothes| Very limited!  Thank you for spandex.

Workouts| I took the stairs at acupuncture, that counts, right? Ha, that's about the only exercise were seeing these days.

Nursery|  Pictures tomorrow, I said it - so now I have to do it!

Movement|  She is definitely slowing down in there!  Her movements have become a lot more subtle, I have to really be paying attention to feel her wiggling, though every once in awhile there will be a good strong one that comes out.

Best Moment this Week|  Getting our house put back together after last weeks carpet episode.  I'm glad to say all major projects are wrapped up, and most of the major mess is contained.

Missing|  Sleeping in whichever position I desire, and being able to be in any position longer then a few minutes without becoming uncomfortable.

Looking Forward To|  The next chapter, everything is about to change!

Nursery: DIY Mobile

I promise nursery pictures are coming soon!  But first I wanted to share my last DIY project for our little girls room.  I'll admit I wrapped this up a few weeks ago, but I just finally got around to getting this post together!  But I am determined to get all of my nursery posts up before she gets here, and well that could really be any day now!  Though I'm thinking we are looking at the later versus the sooner, but we'll see, you never know.

I knew I wanted to incorporate a mobile into the nursery, but I knew with our slopped ceilings it may prevent a little bit of a challenge.  I gathered some inspiration from Pottery Barn Kids and Pinterest and got to work.

This project was super easy and probably came together in just a few hours, minus actually hanging it in the room, which I left to Martin.

I picked up most all of the supplies needed for this mobile at Hobby Lobby.

Supplies Needed:

  • Embroidery hoop, I used a 14'' one
  • 2 types of paper, I used vellum and card stock
  • Glue Dots
  • Craft Punch, mine was a 2.5'' butterfly
  • Trim, enough to cover your hoop
  • Fishing Line
  • Hot Glue Gun (not pictured)
Start by punching out all your little pieces.  Because of the size of my mobile I decided to go with 17 strands, 4  butterflies on each so I needed 68 butterflies punched from each type of paper.

Once I had all my butterflies punched out, I cut my strands of fishing wire they would be hanging from.  I made my lines about 20'', but that is all dependent on how long you are going for.

Then it was time to assemble each strand.  Starting at the bottom of each strand, I spaced the butterflies out about every 4 inches or so.  I used my first one as the template and just eyeballed the rest from there.

I started with a card stock butterfly on the bottom, put a glue dot in the center, ran my fishing line through the glue dot, and then sandwiched it with a vellum butterfly on top.  Though I had 17 strands the assembly went rather quickly.  Then it's time to piece everything together, this was probably the most challenging part of the whole thing.

You will only need the inner ring of the embroidery hoop.  Using your fishing line create a cross on the hoop.  Where the fishing line attaches to the hoop tie attached another piece of fishing line to create the top which you will use to hang it from the ceiling.  I kept these pieces really long since I had no idea at this point exactly what I needed, and it's always easier to go back and trim.

I used a ladder and a clamp to suspend my prepared hoop to make assembly easier.  I started with attached my first string to the center of the cross, and I made this one the longest.  From there I attached 4 more strings on the midway point of each supporting string, half way between the center and the hoop.  These I attached slightly shorter then the center piece.

Finally I attached the remaining 12 strands around the outside of the hoop, 3 per quarter.  These strands I made the shortest.  I first attempted to knot the fishing line, but it just wasn't cutting it, everything was sliding around.  So I ended up securing everything with a drop of hot glue, and that worked perfectly.  I was a little nervous it was going to melt the fishing line, but I did a test run and the line survived.

Once all the strands were strung I simply used my hot glue gun to attach the trim I had found at Hobby Lobby around the top of my hoop, and assembly was complete!

I love that it was so easy and allowed my to incorporate a mobile into the nursery.  We decided to hang it above the chair in the nursery so hopefully she will be able to look up at it when we sit there together.

Stay tuned for the rest of the nursery soon!

Bumpdate | Week 37

Week|  37

Due Date| August 15, 2015

Total Weight Gain| I think this is the first time I only gained what I was supposed to between appointments, granted now my appointments are only one week apart!  I'm still rapidly approaching the plus 50 lb mark!

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| The acid reflux that showed up last week has still been making an appearance, not all the time.  But it's worst when it pops up in the middle of the night and wakes me up, I can't stand the feeling!  I also have some major swelling.  I'm sure this bought of 90 degree weather we're having isn't helping, but I don't even recognize my feet anymore.  I keep telling myself that someday soon I'll be able to wear shoes other then the two pairs of flip flops that currently fit me.

Cravings|  Slushes!  This hot weather has been making me want them more and more, not ice cream or smoothies, but slushes.  Good thing there is a Sonic around the corner from our house!

Sleep|  I've gotten some pretty decent nights sleep lately,  It may have something to do with the fact that I made Martin drag our guest bedroom mattress into the living room floor which has been the coldest part of the house.  I've also started having some crazy vivid dreams which I read can happen towards the end of pregnancy.

Clothes|  I think I'm down to a small handful of dresses that are cutting it in this weather we've been having, my options are getting pretty limited!

Workouts| Now I'm pretty much living in a state of constantly being winded.  Everything leaves me out of breath, so lets just pretend everything is a workout, because it sure as heck feels like it is!

Nursery|  I know I promised some pictures last week, soon!  Remember how I mentioned earlier I made Martin drag our guest mattress into the living room.  Well that also had to do with the fact that the cat had an accident on the guest bedroom carpet one too many times and I decided the carpet in there needed to go.  So last weekend we took everything out of the room and tore up the carpet because I seriously couldn't stand it for another second!  So needless to say our house is in a state of a little bit of crazy right now.

Movement|  I had the official ultrasound this week to document that she was in the right position and though it's harder to see much of her on the screen it was so cool to see her moving her mouth and sticking her tongue in and out.  Now I also know what body parts are where so I'm knowing when it's a kick or a jab.

Best Moment this Week|  Even though it put my house in shambles, getting that carpet out of here was seriously what I needed.  On a plus side in the baby department we also have the car seat officially installed and got it checked off at the police station.

Missing|  Having a choice in clothes, and shoes.  And I've also desperately been missing working out lately, which I never thought I'd really say!

Looking Forward To|  Getting our house back in order!  This weekend, it is happening - it's time to get all of our ducks in a row because the end is getting near!

Bumpdate | Week 36

Week|  36

Due Date| August 15, 2015

Total Weight Gain| Do we really need to keep track of this anymore?  I have definitely packed on more then anticipated, and wouldn't be surprised if I see the plus 50 lbs by the end.

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| I got a new one this week, acid reflux.  At least I think that's what it is, seeing as I've never had it before in my life.  I woke up a few times in the middle of the night with this burning sensation up my throat, and for the first time I got it while I was awake last night.  Definitely not a fan, but I know it's a common pregnancy symptom.

Cravings|  I can't say I've needed anything in particular, in fact usually I have a hard time deciding what I want to eat.  But a hamburger and fries sounds good more often then not lately.  And I will never turn down anything cold, at all.

Sleep|  I think my hips hurt more after a night of sleep then anything else.  They are just done with the two sleep positions I'm able to use right now.  I do have some nights where I make it all the way through without a bathroom break, but I'm totally at the point where I have to use my feet to peddle myself from one side to the other when I want to flip over.

Clothes|  Dresses, dresses, dresses.  They are comfy and cool and those are the top two priorities at the moment.

Workouts| This category probably doesn't need to be on here anymore!  I don't see me picking up my activity in the weeks to come, I feel like I've slowed down to a snails pace!

Nursery|  I think I'm pretty much calling in a wrap for now!  I know it will always be evolving and changing, but last weekend we got the last few things hung, stay tuned for pictures soon!

Movement|  She's definitely wiggling around in there,  I'm getting a few more sharp blows then in the past, but luckily they are few and far between.  Lot's of hiccups, almost on a daily basis - at least that's what I think they are.

Best Moment this Week|  Finding out at my OB appointment that she has flipped into the right position!  I was nervous when she wasn't head down by the time they say 80% of babies are, but I'm glad she decided to find her way on her own!

Missing|  Getting up and down and around without feeling like a beached whale!  Soon I will be able to bend over again.

Looking Forward To|  Meeting this little one!  It's getting so close that I got the official instructions at this weeks doctors appointment about what to do/when to call if contractions start.  Now I'm down to weekly appointments.  I'm excited and anxious all at the same time!

Bumpdate | Week 35

Week|  35

Due Date| August 15, 2015, we just passed the 1 month left mark!

Total Weight Gain| Definitely packing on the plus 40lb, I'll get the official total next week.  No point torturing myself in between doctor visits.

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| Some days it feels like there is nowhere left for my stomach to stretch, it almost feels like if it stretches anymore she's going to drop right out of the bottom of it.  Those most be when she has a growth spurt of something  because then it will settle down the next day, probably once my skin has stretched out to accommodate.  I'm also slowing down to a whole new level, in life, with everything!

Cravings|  Still sticking on the cold and sweet train.  I'm also still guzzling a ton of water, which is good, but it has to be cold!

Sleep|  I'm making it through the night, but with some serious tossing and turning going on.  And of course every toss or turn comes with me rolling over, because rolling over is a whole process.  I'm finding myself waking up sore, staying in any one position too long doesn't feel good!

Clothes|  Me and maxi dresses are BFF's lately.  They are comfy and cool which meets about all of my requirements at the moment.

Workouts| Yeah, don't bank of seeing too much in this category for the remaining duration of this pregnancy!  I'm still dancing a few lessons a day, and on Sunday Martin and I got out for a walk.  A very casually paced one, but it was a walk nonetheless.

Nursery|  Still a few little odds and ends to get into place, I'm hoping to get it wrapped up this weekend!

Movement|  She slowed down a ton this past weekend, which definitely gave me a little fright, but she picked back up on Monday.  This little girl is not consistent at all, but she's still wiggling around in there.

Best Moment this Week|  This is a little sad, but rediscovering the max a/c button in my car, we were best friends last week, and it felt so good!

Missing|  Not loosing my breath doing the simplest things!

Looking Forward To|  Checking some big to do's off our list this coming weekend like cleaning the carpets, installing the car seat and making sure our hospital bags are packed.

Bumpdate | Week 34

Week|  34

Total Weight Gain| Yeah, I'm pretty sure I just passed the plus 40 lb mark.  The good news is I must be carrying it well because don't believe me when I tell them that, or they are just trying to be extra nice!

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| Still sticking strong with the occasional swelling and back/hip pain.  I've been pretty tired lately, which isn't too surprising.  And a few days I've felt like the skin on my stomach is so tight that there is no place else it could possibly stretch too, but the good news is that feeling usually subsides the next day.  It's amazing how I can go from completely uncomfortable one day to feeling great the next, but I'll take it!

Cravings|  Anything cold and sweet.  We're not even having that hot of a summer, in fact it's colder then I can remember in forever, but that doesn't stop me from being hot all the time.  Popsicles, slushies, smoothies, ice cream. . . I could make meals out of all of them.

Sleep|  I was on a good roll, and then the long weekend hit and for some reason my body just wanted to be up between the hours of 3 and 6 am, which I personally wasn't too fond of.  Perhaps it's just preparing me for what's in my near future!  Luckily the last few nights have been better, but I think getting totally worn out from work helps.

Clothes|  All maternity, cool maternity clothes.  Any day I wear pants I tend to regret it - too hot!  I also started to pick up some stuff for the hospital and after, like some nursing bras, super glamorous.

Workouts| Remember we're at the point where living in and of itself is a workout?!  Seriously, I even think rolling over in bed counts because its a serious project!  I am definitely at the point where I am slowing down hardcore.  I had gotten to the point where I wouldn't teach anymore then 3 lessons in a row and work, and now that's even becoming a challenge, depending on how busy the rest of my day is.

Nursery|  I've gotten some more stuff washed and put away.  A few more things I'd like to make sure a washed and ready before she comes, and a few more little projects, but generally I'm feeling really good about where it's at.

Movement|  Lots of wiggles and flutters, she doesn't seem to be running out of room in there yet!

Best Moment this Week|  Having a long 3 day weekend, it was so needed!

Missing|  Sleeping in any position I desire, and not waking up every time I turn over.

Looking Forward To|  Meeting this little one.  It's getting more and more real and we approach things like needing to start to pack a hospital bag and get the car seat installed.  I can't believe we'll be meeting her in just about a month!

Bumpdate | Week 33

Week|  33

Total Weight Gain| Let's just go with a lot until I get my next official weigh in at my OB appointment next week.

Gender| Baby Girl!

Symptoms| The swelling is starting to set in at a whole new level, but just on certain days.  I'm so thankful we've had a more then mild summer, at least for what we are used to here in the midwest.  My body must know when it's my first day off because there is something with Sundays, everything seems to hurt the worst on Sundays and by the time I go back to work on Tuesdays my body seems to have recovered.  I'm getting to the point on some of the hotter days where I can't/don't want to wear my rings because it is just plain uncomfortable, but it's not a permanent thing yet.  And I think my belly button is seeing the last of it's days laying flat!

Cravings|  I never really thought of this as a craving, but I've been eating yogurt and granola every morning for the last few months so perhaps that counts!  And last Sunday I had a craving for popsicles, specifically the lemonade ones, and Martin was nice enough to go get some.  Anything cold and sweet is hitting the spot.

Sleep|  Still going pretty good, but I most definitely wake up anytime I want to roll over, aka hoisting myself from side to side, it's not too pretty at this stage in the game.

Clothes|  You will find me in dresses more often then not lately, I'm just so hot all the time!  Comfort is key!

Workouts| I'm almost feeling as if I should just take this category out of here, because it's pretty much nonexistent.  Mainly because everything feels like a workout now!  So that counts right?!

Nursery|  I can officially say I have all the big stuff checked off the list.  I shared our most current update earlier this week, and now it's on the the smaller details.  Hope to get it wrapped up this month.

Movement|  I feel like this last week I'm noticing her wiggle around more and more frequently, perhaps it's just because she's gotten bigger and is now more noticeable to me even when I've got other stuff going on.  But she's still very low key, I'm thankful nothing has been too violent as of yet, and I'm hoping that this is going to be reflective of her personality outside the womb!

Best Moment this Week|  Getting the last big project checked off in the nursery and actually feeling like it's all coming together for her!

Missing|  My waistline and a full closet of clothes to pick and choose from!

Looking Forward To|  Wrapping up more projects around the house that all seem to be in a mid state, I'm definitely in full on nesting mode!

June Favorites

Hey!  I'm back today (I know surprise number 1) with something other then pregnancy or baby related (surprise number 2).  Let's just attribute it to that third trimester nesting stage where I actually feel like I'm starting to get things done.  I'm not promising that it will last, but I'm making an effort.

Today I'm sharing a few favorite things from June.  June was my birthday month and many of these beauty goodies were birthday treats.

This one isn't even about the eye shadow, it's about the pro palette in 2.  Maybe it had been forever, but last I had checked the smallest pro palette I could get at MAC held 4 shadows, but my 2 all time favorite eye shadow shades are MAC's Retrospec and All That Glitters and I would go through them faster then any others.  So I would always just buy them in the individual containers.  Well when I stopped in to restock my colors, they were out out one of the colors I wanted and that's how I learned about the Pro Palette X2.  I love having my 2 favorite colors together, I seriously use them on almost a daily basis.  And they are $10 a piece for the refill pan, versus $16 for the individual container, for the same amount of product.  Can't beat that!

I think it was fate.  I was waiting and waiting to use up my old bronzer, that thing lasted forever!  And the day Martin and I were going to the mall for something else I dropped what was left of my old bronzer compact and the bit that was remaining was shattered to pieces.  I've always loved Nars blush in Orgasm, but I had been wanting to try their bronzer in Laguana - I've always read so many rave reviews about it.  And what better birthday treat then to get there duo with both products.  So far I'm loving the Laguana bronzer, it looks natural and goes on easily and it's so nice having my blush and bronzer together in one compact, it makes getting ready even easier.  Plus I forgot how much I love the Nars Orgasm blush.  Don't get me wrong I like my Tarte blushes I've been using, but I love this blush it is my all time favorite!

This was one of two lip pencils from Nars I got as my Sephora Birthday gift, gotta love a free gift!  And I'm totally loving this lip pencil.  I haven't tried the other darker shade yet, but so far I love this shade for an easy neutral day to day color, and I love how it feels.  It isn't heavy like a traditional lipstick, but it gives a good amount of color and a ton of moisture.  I get no dry cakey feeling like I typically do when I wear traditional lip sticks.  This is one of those products that I will definitely pay to replace when it runs out, and I'm even curious to give more colors a go.

With my sweet tooth making itself known more so then ever lately something else I've been enjoying this month is a sweet treat at the end of each meal.  One of the treats I'm particularly enjoying is Cosmos Creations Salted Caramel Puffed Corn.  Even though it's a sweet treat (it reminds me of some homemade caramel corn I've made in the past)  I love that it's made out of natural, non-gmo ingredients.  Don't get me wrong, it's still an indulgence and more sugar then I should probably be consuming, but I'm taking advantage of consuming those extra calories while I can!

What have you been loving lately?

The Nursery: Window Seat

I finally wrapped up the last big project in the nursery, at least I think I did!  Hopefully it's just the smaller stuff left on the agenda.  We've had these nooks in both of our upstairs rooms and I have always wanted to make them into a window seat, and I finally have.

The whole project probably actually took about an hour or so, not bad at all,  But you factor into it my heightened level of indecisiveness and the whole project really took me weeks from start to finish.  Pretty much nothing got executed in the way I originally planned, but I am still happy with the outcome, even though it took me a little longer to get there.

I ordered a large roll of 3 inch foam off of Amazon, enough to work for both of my seats.  I was having trouble finding a piece quite wide enough.  I needed 38'' and I ended up settling for 36''.  Most of the large pieces of upholstery foam come in 72'' lengths which was enough to cover both of my seats.

Initially the plan was to sew a removable slip cover.  I thought then it could be easily thrown in the wash, you know.  But I ended up nixing that route when 1.  I had the foam cut to size and I thought that there was no way I would be able to easily get a slip cover on and off that thing, and 2.  Once I washed and dried my fabric I had bought I was a little short and wouldn't have enough to complete the whole thing.  So I went the easier route and stapled the whole thing to a piece of plywood and slid it in place on top of the bench.

I found the fabric at JoAnn's, and at the time also had picked up a few other pieces that were initially intended for pillows for the seat.  More on that later.

1.  I started my laying down my batting first.  Then my piece of foam (which was easily cut to size with a steak knife), and then my piece of plywood on top of that.
2.  Using my staple gun, I pulled the batting taught and went around the whole perimeter.
3.  I repeated the whole process with the fabric, making sure I lined the edges up with one of the lines in the fabric so it would be straight and not all wonky.  There was definitely a little trial and error when it came to the corners, some are better then others, and I totally just tried to figure it out as I went.

Like I said earlier, initially I was going to sew pillow covers but that was before I got in a fight with my sewing machine.  My patience is definitely wearing thin lately and I decided it was better to scrap the whole sewing pillow covers thing before I had a total melt down.  Granted this was after I washed, ironed,  and cut the fabric.

I ended up picking up all the pillow insets and covers at Ikea.  You really can't beat the prices on their insets, $5.99 for a 20''x20'' Fjadrar feather insert.  Even the synthetic versions are over $20 a piece at JoAnn's.  The covers were also really reasonable, definitely worth paying for over losing my frustration on the homemade versions.  The white covers where $4 each, and the pink velvet ones were $8 each.

To make this area more into a designated reading nook we also installed some picture ledges to store some books on the wall to the left of the window nook.

We used the Ribba Picture Ledges from Ikea, if you can't tell that has been my go to place lately for picking up items on the cheap for the nursery.

Her book collection isn't too large at the moment, though I am sure that will change in the years to come and we will just be able to store a select few up on the wall.  Overall I am happy with how it turned out and I hope that it will become a favorite place for her to cuddle with a book.

Here is a little sneak peak at some of the other things that have been added to the nursery.  I'm hoping to have everything wrapped up in the next few weeks so we can relax an enjoy the last few weeks before her arrival!
