Simply Elegant: Night Time Skin Routine

Taking care of my skin is something I have been increasingly putting more attention into the last few years.  I have decided that because I was blessed with good skin as a teenager is why I now have to deal with adult acne.  I swear my skin has never been more difficult then it has the last few years.  This winter I feel that I have fallen into a nighttime routine that my skin is happy with and I thought I would share.

First I use LUSH's Ultrabland to remove all my makeup.  It is an oil based cleanser and I love it.  I just dab it all over my face and use my fingers to rub off all my makeup, including my eye makeup.

I just use a wash cloth and warm water to take it all off gently.  I love that it is thick and moisturizing.  That it takes everything off without feeling like it strips your face.

Next I use Aveda's Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant on a cotton square.  I just swipe it all over my face.  The product says it swipes away surface cells leaving the pores ready to be moisturized.  I feel like it does just that.  I can't say I have ever used an exfoliant before this one, in fact I'm not entirely sure I still know what it is.  I got it in a trial skin care kit I purchased from Aveda, I've been using it for about a month.  I like the extra clean feeling it gives, without feeling like it dries out or strips my skin.

Typically in the winter I have extra dry skin, and I always tend to be combating flakes.  This winter after cleansing and removing my makeup I have been moisturizing with organic pure unrefined extra virgin coconut oil.  I buy a massive container at Costco (the brand is Carrington Farms) and use it all over the place.  I have been reading the benefits of coconut oil all over the place.  I like the fact that it's naturally antibacterial and that its a light oil and soaks in quickly and doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy.

I do usually adjust my skin care seasonally, so I expect as the weather changes I will adjust this routine.  Which for us mid-westerners does not appear to be anytime soon!  For now it has been working great.  This is the first winter without any dry flakes on my face, like the first winter in over 10 years. The things I get excited about!
