Bathroom Remodel: Shower Tile Done!

Last we left off the shower had 2 complete walls tiled, with the third almost there.

I thought I could whip out the remaining tiles in under an hour, easily.  And then I took a closer look.

The tiles were headed inward with a pretty good slant.  I put the arrows in so you could see, they were closer to the door near the bottom and headed in as you progressed up.

I sat there and stared at it for awhile, not wanting our whole bathroom to look like we didn't know what we were doing.  And as you can see in the photo, there was some moving backwards before nearing the finish line.

I used a screwdriver to pop off all of the wonky tiles.  Then using a tape measure I measured in from the door frame 7'', that was the magic number of the 4 tiles that were level.  Trust me I had my little level out, my big level, and I kept checking and re checking everything.

I used my longest level to connect all the dots giving me a reference line that ran the whole wall.  From there I measured every tile to that line.

Even though it was a little discouraging to pop tiles off the wall and feel like I was moving backwards, I'm so glad I did.  I would have hated that wall every time I looked at it if it was that crooked and angled.

So much better, right?  I can now say the shower tile installation is 99.9% complete.  You can see that there are a few bottom pieces not in yet, but those won't go in until after the floor tile is down.

On the agenda for this weekend, floor tile!  I have been waiting for this one for what seems like forever!  If I'm lucky, perhaps the walls will even see some paint too - then it will really start to feel like it is all coming together, can't wait!

  1. Good for you for fixing the slanted tile! Hopefully you were calm about it - knowing me, I would have used a few choice words to help vent my frustration. :) It's looking great!
